Wright Flyer on display in 1908 at Le Mans, France. Following the first ever powered flight in the Wright Flyer I at Kitty Hawk in 1903, the Wright brothers continued to develop their aircraft design. In January 1907 they submitted their design to the US War Department, which had requested designs to develop a military aircraft. The following year they travelled to Europe to try and gain sales. Only France showed interest due in part to aviation enthusiasts that were flying similar aircraft.
